As I sit down to reflect on my crochet journey, I can't help but marvel at how this craft has woven its way into every aspect of my life. From the cozy confines of my home to the vibrant landscapes of Kenya where I reside, crochet has become more than just a hobby—it's a passion, a form of expression, and a way of life.
Discovering the Podcasting Adventure
When I first embarked on the adventure of sharing my crochet experiences through a podcast, I found myself grappling with the terminology. Is it truly a podcast, or is it more of a vlog? The lines blurred as I navigated through this new medium of expression. Ultimately, I have realized that the label mattered less than the content itself. Whether it's a podcast, a vlog, or a blend of both, what truly matters is the connection forged with fellow crochet enthusiasts around the world.
From Yarn to Pillow: My Ongoing Projects
One of the joys of crochet lies in the endless possibilities it offers. From shawls to cozy blankets, each project is a journey unto itself. Currently, I find myself immersed in the creation of a plush pillow—a project that has become my nemesis and my muse in equal measure. As I weave together strands of yarn, I'm reminded of the patience and perseverance required to bring a vision to life. And while some projects may test my resolve, each stitch is a testament to my passion for the craft.
Navigating Life in Kenya: Insights and Reflections
Living in Kenya has provided me with a rich tapestry of experiences, shaping both my personal and creative endeavors. From the vibrant colors of the landscape to the warmth of its people, Kenya has become an integral part of my crochet journey. However, navigating the financial landscape, particularly when it comes to mortgages and cost of living, has presented its own set of challenges. Through research and introspection, I've come to understand the nuances of economic realities in Kenya, gaining insights that inform both my personal and professional decisions.
Embracing Creativity: Finding Opportunity Amidst Challenges
Despite the challenges, Kenya has also been a source of inspiration, igniting my entrepreneurial spirit and pushing me to explore new avenues for creativity. From teaching English online to offering specialized crochet services, I've witnessed firsthand the power of creativity in overcoming obstacles and forging new paths. By embracing the spirit of innovation and adaptability, I've discovered that even in the face of uncertainty, there are endless opportunities waiting to be seized.
Building Community: A Tapestry of Connection
At the heart of my crochet journey lies a vibrant community of fellow enthusiasts, united by a shared passion for creativity and connection. Through my podcast, I've had the privilege of engaging with viewers from around the world, exchanging ideas, and sharing in the joys and challenges of the craft. Whether it's through tutorials, discussions about life in Kenya, or simply swapping stories of our latest projects, each interaction is a thread that strengthens the fabric of our community.
As I conclude, I'm grateful for the journey that crochet has taken me on. From the humble beginnings of learning a new stitch to the joy of sharing my experiences with others, crochet is an integral part of who I am. And as I continue to navigate twists and turns of this creative journey, I'm reminded that it's not just about the finished project—it's about the connections we make along the way, the lessons we learn, and the stories we share. So here's to embracing the creative journey, one stitch at a time.

Love this item going to put little gifts in it on the tree ,just tying in tails.
I am really impressed with the quality of this written pattern as well as the video tutorial. Both are clear and detailed. I am not done with my striped cardigan yet, but it's coming together nicely (though I'm not so sure about my choice to use up yarn I already have with individual stripes!)... so many tails to sew in!! My advice would be to buy self-striping yarn like she does in the video.
Easy to follow pattern! Super base for the rectangle or other larger projects.
Keep the tutorials coming and with written and visual instructions to follow along so beginners can learn. Thank you for your help.
I think there is a mistake in the written pattern. It says to do a half double crochet twice, when it is only supposed to be once
Thank you to the Secret Yarnery for this pattern! Can't go wrong with this one, it really is easy and fast to make - I'm on my 2nd one already and plan to do more! You really don't need to look any further if you're looking to make a scarf - you will not be disappointed. In fact, you'll have fun making it (I did!) Happy crocheting!
Thank you for writing a pattern that is amazingly easy to follow and help me produce a stunning piece!!
Wow! I can't believe I made this beautiful toran. Well, yes I can since I followed this easy pattern! Again, wow! How fun was this to make! Super-duper easy to make and you can be as creative as you like by choosing colours, placement of colours to form pattern(s), number of leaves, etc. so it truly can be personalized for any occasion! Love the Secret Yarnery patterns and tutorials - thank you so much for your time, efforts, and for sharing your talent with the rest of us in the world!
The best pattern & tutorial I have ever come across. Loved how you used the needle to clearly point out where the stitch was to go. Have made 3 hats already. Many more on my to do list. Thanks so much
The yarn world is vast & has several yarn naming & grading systems. This chart really helps to get the right weight of yarn, size of needle, gauge & yardage/meterage when using patterns or yarns from other countries. And it covers both knit & crochet. Thank you for putting together this very useful tool, Secret Yarnery.
I love this pattern. Very easy to follow and fun to make.
Glad I found this pattern. I love it.
It was very easy to do. I have already made 4
Great pattern and PERFECT tutorial!
