The Journey: Shipping 73kgs to My Door
Ice Yarns ships my order free of charge to my freight forwarder, but from there, I handle the logistics. My freight forwarder ensures the packages arrive directly at my house, although that process does take some time. Understandably, the boxes were filthy on the outside after their long journey, but thankfully, all the yarn inside was perfectly clean, thanks to Ice Yarn's clever packing.
It’s a system that works for me, especially for such large orders, though it certainly isn’t quick. When your shipment is almost 162 pounds of yarn, patience and planning are key!
The Big Unboxing: Getting to the Good Stuff
Unpacking was an adventure in itself. The boxes were heavy—lifting them felt like a workout—and as soon as I opened the first one, dust clouds rose around me. Let’s just say handwashing became a priority after handling the packaging!
What impressed me most was how well everything was packed. Ice Yarn placed the yarn in individual bags inside the boxes. Not only did it keep everything organized, but it also made unboxing easier and the yarn stayed clean throughout its long journey.
Once the cardboard chaos was handled, it was time to tear into the bags and reveal the treasures.
Favorite Ice Yarns: What’s New and Noteworthy
Favorite Yarn
One of my go-to yarn types, "Favorite," came in an incredible variety of colors. Each skein is 100 grams and 210 meters, making it perfect for numerous projects. The yarn has a nice balance of body and softness, and the color options this time were stunning:
- Christmas Green
- Purple
- Turquoise
- Light Beige
- Rose Pink
- Salmon
- And many more!
This acrylic yarn is sturdy yet soft, versatile for everything from baby blankets to decorative pillows. I even think some of these colors, like Candy Pink or Dark Salmon, would make gorgeous lipsticks—don’t you?
Saver 100: Evolution and Innovation
Saver 100 is a returning favorite, but this year, the texture has changed. The new Saver 100 is thinner than previous batches, making it closer to the Favorite yarn in terms of thickness. Both offer 100 grams and 210 meters, but Saver 100 now pairs seamlessly with Favorite, opening up even more creative possibilities for mixed-yarn projects.
Colors that stood out from the haul include:
- Mint Green
- Light Jungle Green
- Bright Turquoise
- Various shades of blue, labeled as "Jeans Blue" but differing slightly in tone (one indigo, one more grayish).
While I loved the older, thicker version, this update makes Saver 100 feel more lightweight and flexible for projects like shawls or lightweight throws.
The Hero of Neutrals: Stocking Up on Basics
Neutrals play a big role in my crochet projects. Colors like white, gray, and camel are invaluable; they’re perfect for edging or joining colorful granny squares. Because they’re used throughout so many projects, I make sure to stock up:
Having extra neutrals ensures I’m never stuck mid-project.
Yarn Heaven: Adding Unique Textures to the Stash
Magic Light
This variegated yarn is a dream for color changes. Each skein is 100 grams and 360 meters, making it ideal for knitting machines or crochet projects that need a vibrant, dynamic look. I can already picture it as a scarf or even part of a blanket with effortless color transitions.
Chenille Baby Light
Chenille shines when it comes to softness, making it my go-to for cozy projects like slippers. The light turquoise and purple chenille yarns included in this haul are irresistible, especially for projects where comfort is key.
Cakes Wool
This blend of 20% wool and 80% acrylic combines softness with a farmhouse aesthetic. It’s perfect for rustic-style blankets or accessories.
Organizing the Haul
After everything was unboxed, it became clear that my yarn stash needed some reorganization. I sorted yarn by type and color, stacking them neatly (or as neatly as possible) on my shelves. Want tips for creating your dream craft space? Check out my guide on smart yarn storage solutions.
