Learn How to Crochet - Secret Yarnery

Are you ready to Learn How To Crochet? Hi everyone, Christa here! I'm so excited to share with you how to learn crocheting. It is a great hobby for people of all ages, and it's especially rewarding when you can make something as useful and beautiful as a crocheted item.

What You'll Need

  • Yarn: The type of yarn you use will depend on the project you want to make. For beginners, I recommend using worsted-weight yarn.
  • Crochet hook: The size of your crochet hook will depend on the weight of the yarn you're using. A good rule of thumb is to use a hook that is one size smaller than the recommended size on the yarn label.
  • Tapestry needle: A tapestry needle is used to weave in the ends of your yarn.
  • Scissors: Scissors are used to cut the yarn.

Choosing the Right Crochet Hook Size

When choosing a crochet hook size, it's important to consider the weight of the yarn you're using. A thicker yarn will require a larger hook, while a thinner one will require a smaller hook. You can find crochet hook-size here.

    The Basic Stitches

There are only a few basic stitches that you'll need to know to crochet. These are the chain stitch, the single crochet stitch, and the double crochet stitch.

    • Chain stitch: The chain stitch is the simplest stitch in crocheting. To chain stitch, simply wrap the yarn around your hook and pull it through the loop on your hook. Access the right-handed video tutorial here and the left-handed video tutorial here.
    • Single crochet stitch: The single crochet stitch is the next simplest stitch in crocheting. To single crochet stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops on your hook. Find the right-handed video tutorial here and the left-handed video tutorial here.
    • Double crochet stitch: A slightly more complex stitch than a single crochet stitch. To double crochet stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over, and pull through two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook. Get the right-handed video tutorial here and the left-handed video tutorial here.
