Welcome back to The Secret Yarnery! It's been a fun and busy week, and I'm thrilled to share all the updates with you. From family milestones to a channel update for our left-handed crocheters, there's so much to talk about. Let’s dive in!
Family Updates: A Growing Kiddo and New Realizations
This week, life reminded me how fast our kids grow up! My oldest son, Meer, had abdominal surgery recently, and while he’s pain-free and recovering well now, it brought an unexpected realization for me. At the hospital, I wasn’t even allowed into the pre-op area! Watching him walk off with his little mesh cap and shoe covers was a big “mom moment.” He's growing up, and the days of holding his hand through scary situations are fading. It’s bittersweet, isn’t it?
Editing Changes and A Fresh Look
You might have noticed some changes in my videos recently. I’ve been focusing on editing to make them more engaging—like adding clips or images over my face. It’s not that I’m trying to disguise anything, but honestly, do we need to look at every wrinkle every day? Nope! If you love the unedited, raw chats, make sure to join my Friday Live sessions. They’re shorter now (just 30 minutes) and completely unedited.
The Weather and Temperature Blanket Fever
Speaking of life changes, we finally had a couple of breezy, cooler days and even some rain! It felt so good not to sweat for a day and a half. I almost pulled out my temperature blanket, but the warm weather returned before I could start. That project is calling my name, and I’m itching to get back to it. If you're working on your own temperature blanket or want to start one, check out The Ultimate Temperature Blanket Guide & Pattern for some inspiration.
The Neck Light Obsession
Neck lights—oh my goodness, what a game changer for crocheting! I’m in the middle of preparing a detailed review of different neck lights I’ve collected over the years. Some of them have been sitting in boxes for two years, while others are brand new. I’ll be testing and comparing them to help you pick the best one. Meanwhile, if you’ve got questions or features you look for in neck lights, let me know in the comments! For those just getting started, my guide to crochet tools, including neck lights, might be helpful—explore How to Crochet for Beginners - Tools Needed.
A New YouTube Channel for Left-Handed Crocheters
Here’s a big update: I started a brand-new YouTube channel dedicated to left-handed tutorials! I know how tricky it can be to find left-handed videos in one place, so this channel solves that. It’s called Left-Handed Crochet Tutorials (how straightforward, right?). I’ve been uploading my 170 left-handed tutorials over there, so make sure to subscribe if you’re a lefty or know someone who would benefit. Check it out at Left-Handed Crochet Tutorials.
Also, I’m working on getting a dedicated website for left-handed crocheters, but for now, the patterns remain the same as on my main site.
Crochet Projects and Finished Objects
Now for the crochet updates! My bed runner is finally finished, and I just love how it turned out. It works beautifully as a bed runner and even as a wrap. The versatility makes it a wonderful project to try out for yourself. If you want to create something similar, check out the fabulous crochet patterns available here.
I’m also thrilled to announce the upcoming tutorial for the Confetti Crates Bed Runner! It’s a cheerful and textured design that genuinely looks like an angel food cake with sprinkles. We had some great name suggestions from everyone—including “Scrappy Windows” and “Cotton Candy Bed Runner”—but “Confetti Crates” won me over. What do you think? Let me know if you have other ideas!
